Understanding Resolution in Adobe Photoshop CS4

For designers working in graphic design companies using Adobe Photoshop CS4, it is important to understand the various resolution-attributes like dimensions, bit depths, and color models. These are discussed below:

The dimension of an image should be set with a proper pixel value. Although, Photoshop has a maximum pixel limit of 300000 X 300000, graphics designers usually prefer to keep the dimension to a lower resolution (for example, 400X400 pixels). Similarly, one can work with bit depths up to 32 floating-point bits per channel in HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode in graphic web design ; although, most image editing is done at 8 bits per channel (24-bit RGB and 32-bit CMYK).

The different resolution types are:

Sampling Resolution – For scanned images, sampling resolution gives a measurement of precision of the scanning process which is measured in sample per inch (spi).

Document Resolution – The resolution value saved in the file when an image is imported from any software, is known as document resolution. The image quality changes only when the image is resampled.

Effective resolution – The effective resolution is the resolution of the image after it is scaled (by compressing or stretching the pixels) to its final print size.

Device resolution – It is the resolution of the output device. In graphic & web design, where the output device is not specific, it is essential to keep the resolution to a common and acceptable figure.

To give details of the resolution of an image, following parameters are important:

Pixel Dimensions Physical Dimensions and Resolution File Size Megapixels Single-Side Dimension. ‘Res’ or the number of pixels per millimeter

A bigger resolution does not necessarily mean a better resolution. A higher means that it would take longer to get saved, printed or opened. At the same time, a lower resolution may result in a pixelated image with a degraded quality. So, it is essential for a web graphic designer to keep the right resolution balance depending on the purpose of the final image.

Layer Masking: Photoshop CS4 Making it Easier

Photoshop CS4 is one advanced photo editing and graphic designing program from the house of Adobe Systems. How to Modify Metadata and Keywords in Adobe Photoshop CS4?

If you are a graphics designer working in Adobe Photoshop CS4 wishing to streamline your workflow and organize your files, Metadata is the key to your solution. Metadata is a set of standardized information about a file, such as the copyright information, authorâ??s name, keywords, the camera settings at the time of creating the image, and so on. In simpler words, metadata is data about the data. If your image is the data, then metadata is the information about the image attributes, such as the file type, the size, or the date it was created. Editing metadata using Adobe Bridge in Photoshop CS4 is easier than ever. For example, you may choose Window > Workspace > Keywords to edit metadata keywords. As adding keywords to your images is a critical step in digital resource management, you can follow these steps:

From the Keywords panel, click the New Keyword button or New Sub Keyword button. A new default name will appear in the panel. To create the new keyword or new sub keyword, type in the default name and press Enter (Windows) Return (Mac).

You can select the Metadata workspace to view and edit more general metadata. The metadata placard is displayed at the top of the panel, which contains the settings from the camera when the picture was taken. You will easily find information such as the aperture setting, metering mode, shutter speed, ISO, pixel dimensions, file size, and color space. The placard is formatted to resemble the LCD screen on a camera, which is a very useful feature of Bridge for custom graphic design . For a creative graphic designer , the most important part of the Metadata panel is the IPTC Core. This is where you can modify or add keywords, contact information, copyright, and so on. To start typing, click the triangle to the left of the IPTC Core heading to expand the IPTC Core section and select an item.

Retouching Blemishes in Adobe Photoshop CS4 is Just a Simple Task

Pixelated Fonts In Photoshop Cs4 Have

have a problem, when I use fonts in photoshop they are pixelated, but when I use fonts in openoffice or imovie it is nice and smooth the way its suppose to be. I talked to the adobe tech support and he said that its just the nature of the application since its pixel based and it does it to his also. He said Illustrator will work, but for me right now thats too much money just to make fonts not as pixelated.have a problem, when I use fonts in photoshop they are pixelated, but when I use fonts in openoffice or imovie it is nice and smooth the way its suppose to be.

I talked to the adobe tech support and he said that its just the nature of the application since its pixel based and it does it to his also. He said Illustrator will work, but for me right now thats too much money just to make fonts not as pixelated.

Thanks for any help. you checked the text options in photoshop? There is a dropdown menu for anti-aliasing, if it is selected ‘none’ the font will be pixelated, but there is also other options, as Smooth, Sharp, Crisp and Strong, in the same menu, you should take a look at it. The reason Illustrator will work better is because the program creates vector based images, rather than pixel based. This is why you should always create logos and whatnot in illustrator.
