Black history month is bad because it separatse american history from black history, and it tries to pass off Rosa Parks, MLK, and Tubman as black history. There is more to black history than 3 or 4 big figures, although those figures were amazing. We need to learn history from more of the african ameriacn perspective, not just the european/white perspective, and look at how african americans helped build the country, not how they appear randomly in certain parts of history, as in blk hstry mnth

I wish I had been taught about the living hero, Nelson Mandela, or the greatest black conqueror of the more modern era: Shaka Zulu. There’s so much about our race to learn, but they wont teach us that we can get along without whites or any other races.
If you ever get the opportunity, look up the Ashanti. They are amazing. And despite what modern history books claim, the Egyptians were successful before the white arrived and were still black-skinned afterwards.
I’m with you, MaligantWorm. I’m black and I learned not a damn thing from the “history or blacks” The only thing they teach you is that blacks should protest “non-violently” and that MLK is the only black to look up to, not to exclude Rosa Parks or the bus boycotts.
I’ve learned more from searching around the world, than I did from any US text book. I wish I had learned more about Malcom X, about the police beating and killing my forefathers just because they talked to white girls.
And I say that out of respect for humanity, so don’t start trippin and call me racist. MLK was the greatest.
Screw black history month. I’m black and I think it’s a waste of time, it’s a pathetic excuse for an apology for slavery (like affirmative action) and a cheap way to make us feel good about our crappy history. If anything we need black future month where we fix issues in our community like crime and bad education. But God knows that’s never gonna happen so long as my brothas and sistas are too busy swimming in a piss pool of ignorance and self-hatred.
